Amazonite is a captivating blue-green variety of microcline feldspar named after the Amazon River, where early explorers believed it was found in abundance. Its soothing turquoise colour, ranging from pale seafoam to deep teal, has adorned jewellery and talismans since the days of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia. Amazonite forms in granitic rocks and is found in significant deposits in Brazil, Russia, Madagascar, and Colorado (USA). Archaeologists have found amazonite beads in tombs dating back to 3000 BCE, and the ancient Egyptians carved it into amulets and scarabs for protection and truth. In Hindu tradition, amazonite is associated with the Heart and Throat chakras, bridging the gap between what the heart feels and what the mouth speaks.
